Swim with Pigs on an Ocean Safari

If you’re looking for a little excitement in Great Exuma, then you’ll want to check out Exuma Water Sports. They’ll take you on a heart-pumping Jet Ski or Wave Runner ride, and introduce you to some of the unique, native wildlife. And because they’re based right in Great Exuma, it’ll be easy to get there from the Grand Isle Resort.

You won’t want to miss out on their Ocean Safari. You’ll take a powerboat around about 75 little islands, and meet a lot of wildlife along the way. Something you won’t see outside of the Bahamas are The Swimming Pigs. These feral, though exceptionally friendly, pigs sunbathe on the beach and swim in the ocean—and you’ll have the opportunity to swim with them. Your guide will tell you all about their history while you get the chance to meet the pigs themselves.

While you explore the land and go snorkeling in the sea (with all equipment provided), you’ll have the chance to meet other local creatures, including iguanas, sea stars, and sting rays. Even if you’re not a strong swimmer, you’ll also have the chance to snorkel in a living coral reef, so you’ll get to experience a lot of the region’s flora and fauna all in one day. You’ll also be brought to your guides’ favorite beaches and coves, so you might even find some place you want to return to on a later occasion.

You won’t have to worry about getting too hungry on your safari, because Exuma Water Sports will provide snacks, drinks, and beer along the way. If you’re ready for a full meal by the end of your adventure, however, you can return to the Grand Isle Resort to grab lunch or dinner. Their on-site Palapa Grill serves local seafood and authentic barbeque, which means it’s another way to get acquainted with Great Exuma.
